Wisconsin's departing attorney general released a statement on Thursday notifying employers that they should not cease providing benefits to the domestic partners of employees even though the state recently passed a ban on same-sex marriage, the Associated Press reports.

According to the article, the city of Madison asked Peg Lautenschlager to clarify whether the ban, which was passed by voters in November, applies to domestic-partnership rights. While she acknowledged that her statement is advisory in nature, the court system relies on such statements for arguments and verdicts. (The Advocate)
